Electricity > Capacitor Value Tables

This section provides the value of alphanumeric coded capacitors. They come in many sizes, shapes, values and ratings, but like resistors, you can identify the values by looking at either the colour codes or be reading and understanding the alphanumeric values printed on the case.

The tables below show you how to decipher the value of different types of capacitor.

Ceramic capacitor codes using numeric coding

If the capacitor reads ‘102K’, the first two Digits are the significant number, the third is the amount of zeros to put after that number and the letter is the tolerance.

Therefore 102K = 1,000ρF @ 10% tolerance

Multiplier Table

Number Multiply By
(Additional no. of Zeros)
0 None (0)
1 10 (1)
2 100 (2)
3 1,000 (3)
4 10,000 (4)
5 100,000 (5)
6 1,000,000 (6)

Tolerance table

Code Tolerance
C ±0.25ρF
J ±5%
K ±10%
M ±20%
D ±0.5ρF
Z +80% / -20%
